FAQs
What topics can I ask about here?
Feel free to post any topic related to swimming pools or spas. This website is primarily geared towards pool owners with questions about their swimming pool maintenance, repairs, construction, pool equipment, and pool features. Any topics unrelated to pools & spas will be summarily rejected.
What types of questions should I avoid asking?
Avoid asking questions that have been asked before. A quick search of Pool Guide should show you whether a question has been asked before. Asked the same question twice is not a good way to get people to begin answering the question. Bumping an existing question by saying, I'd like to know about this too, is the preferred method of gaining attention to a topic you would like answered.
What does it mean if a question is rejected?
It means that your question was either not related to the subject matter (pools & spas) or that an administrator deemed either the question had been asked previously. Some posts that are deemed self promotional advertisements may also be rejected. Pool Guide is a place to ask and answer pool questions, not to self promote your pool company for free. We have another website we own if you are looking to create a free link for your pool company somewhere check out our pool business directory on PoolContractor.com, you're more than welcome to submit a free link there.
How long do I have to wait for an answer to my question?
We have a few dedicated pool industry professionals that routinely answer questions on Pool Guide. However, if you are looking for an immediate answer to a pool related question, you should definitely visit PoolContractor.com our sister site.
What if I disagree with the closure of a question? How to reopen it?
Questions that need additional work or that are not a good fit for this site may be put on hold by experienced community members. While questions are on hold, they cannot be answered, but can be edited to make them eligible for reopening.
Why do I see a message that my question does not meet standards?
An administrator took a look at your post and determined either it is not a good fit for Pool Guide or that it needs additional work before it can be accepted.
Why are some questions marked as duplicate?
Questions that already exist in Pool Guide may be marked as a duplicate if an administrator spots an existing thread with the same discussion. Threads may be merged if they contain the same information but are really duplicate topics.
Why are questions no longer being accepted from my account?
We have determined that you are posting an inordinate amount of self promotional links in your questions or answers. Your account has been suspended and you will no longer be able to post questions or respond to them. The content which you've posted will also be removed from the website by an administrator shortly.
Why is the system asking me to wait a day before asking another question?
Our system has determined you are posting too frequently. Please throttle the number of questions you ask in a given day.
How do I ask a good question?
A good idea is to search Pool Guide before asking a question to see if it has been asked before. Most pool questions can be phrased a few different ways so it's a good idea to search for multiple keywords before asking a question. I.E. "How much does an inground pool cost", "How much does a swimming pool cost", "How much does a pool cost"
What should I do when someone answers my question?
Thank them if their response was helpful! It's the best way to acknowledge someone for helping you solve a problem or get clarity on an issue.
