As a result on a long trip in July my pool is a sea of algae that chlorine or algaecide won’t kill. I don’t want to drain the pool for winter due to potential damage issues. Will cold water permanent eliminate the algae? If not what should I do?

Try not to close your pool green. Algae growth stops at temperatures around 40° F, but some algae will survive and resurface weeks before the pool is opened.
