    The primary distinction between inground and above ground pool pumps is that inground pumps are “self-priming,” but aboveground pumps are not. Because most inground pumps are above water level and most aboveground pumps are below water level, this relates to the pump’s ability to lift water vertically.

    There’s all sorts of different pumps for above ground and inground pools. Single speed pumps, variable speed pumps, dual speed pumps are the most popular.
