Calcium concentrations should be kept between 200 and 400 parts per million. Calcium begins to precipitate out of the water and cling to the swimming pool surface as the pH climbs above 7.4. When a swimming pool is subjected to high pH levels, it might develop an uneven discoloration below the waterline.
