We are embarking on our first year of opening and maintaining our pool, as it was built just last year and completed around early to mid-August. Since we didn’t have much to maintain before the pool builder closed it up, this is our first time taking on the task.
During the pool opening, the builder conducted a system check, cleaned the auto-cover, and added algaecide and shock. They recommended using test strips to monitor and maintain free chlorine (FC) levels, but after doing some research, I’ve learned that this may not be sufficient. Consequently, we purchased a test kit to get more accurate readings.
Here are our current levels:
- FC: 2.4
- CC: 2.6
- pH: 7.9
- TA: 127
- CH: 199
- CYA: 5
Given that the outside temperature has been ranging from 40s to 50s lately and we won’t be diving into swimming weather for another week or two, I’m unsure of the best approach to adjusting these levels. I’m also uncertain about the order in which I should make the adjustments and the pace at which I should work on them.
