What water softener should I use for a hot tub?

  • 4

We have owned our hot tub for around 2 seasons. First year we noticed right away that our hard water was creating stains in the hot tub, and also made your skin feel very pruny when getting out of the spa. Our pool service tech recommended a water softener which we tried. It definitely worked as far as pruny skin is concerned, but still seeing hard water stains. Is there a way to fix this?

Water from a home softener is unbalanced for hot tubs, so if you must use softened water in your hot tub, you’ll need to harden it up with treatments before it creates any difficulties. The recommended calcium level for hot tub water is 200 to 400 ppm, but before you add a product like Liquid Calcium to your freshly filled tub, be sure the alkalinity and pH are correct.
